27/4/08
The U10s played at triangle in indoor tournament winning 5 and losing 1 game. They played some of the best football for age I have seen, putting into practice all the passing and moving we have been working on. Rose Jump deservedly won tournament player of the day for outstanding wing play with devastating pace and skill-we have found the new Theo Walcott!!!! This was a great team performance with only one goal (a freak shot from half way) conceded, reflecting effective and well coordinated defending from Lydia Woods, Andrea Barnard and Gabrielle Fitzsimons and goalkeeper Daisy Eden, and irrepressible midfield / attacking play by Rose, Billie Philpott, Ria Banitas and Lydia Goodridge.
This augurs well for next season with a number of other players to call on.
Commiserations to the previously unbeaten U12s who lost to Tonbridge 3-1 in the cup final today-I guess we had to lose some time. Get a draw on wednesday and we'll be league champions-good luck!!!
19-04-08 under 11s won 8-1 against Rusthall
Southdown gained emphatic revenge for an earlier defeat although Rusthall started the stronger, keeping defenders Jenny David and Hannah Lehkyj heavily employed. Southdown then stepped up a gear and a clever cross from Alexa Morgan set up Andrea Barnard to score from the edge of the box. Scorer then turned provider and crossed for Rachel Steer to coolly beat the keeper. Good passing andhard tackling from Nathalie Everest, Jenny David and Emily Brocklehurst gave Southdown control of midfield but Rusthall briefly got back in the hunt when they reduced the arrears in the second half. Southdown immediately broke up the other end and a perfect through ball from Beth Shoesmith put Holly McGratten through to score with a great angled shot. Alexa then scored from the edge of the box but though Southdown seemed to be cruising, Rusthall pulled two superb saves from Sian Hamilton. Gabrielle FitzSimons came back on to torment the Rusthall left back and win a throw-in from which Rachel scored and after that two fine finishes enabled Holly to complete her hat-trick beore Hannah spotted the keeper off her line to score a wonder goal from the penalty spot inside her own box.

U10/11 friendly with Burgess Hill School for girls
We played 2 matches, fielding around 17 girls, coming away with two 2-0 wins. Goals from Billie Philpott, Emma Lewry and 2 from Beth Shoesmith, who along with Emily Brocklehurst, who gave an outstanding display in defence with several creative passes, was player of the day.
U12s need one more win and a draw to guarantee winning the league, with 3 games to go, and are through to the cup final.
10th Feb U9/10 Indoor Tournament
With so many new players joining in recent weeks we entered 2 teams, playing each other and the other 5 teams (Newhaven, Eastbourne, Adur, Patcham, Dynamo). The sky blues won 4 and lost 2, scoring 12 and conceding 4. In what was very much a team performance, Emily Brocklehurst stood out for her reading of the game with some great passes, whilst Gabrielle Fitzsimmons (lost count), Lydia Woods (3) and Imogen Emerson with a great shot from distance, were all on the score sheet. Andrea Barnard gave a strong performance in defence and midfield, whilst Daisy Eden pulled off several good saves in goal. It was particularly pleasing to beat Eastbourne whoalways produce good teams and are likely to be in our league next season.
The dark blues with a mixture of U9s and the new players improved amazingly over the afternoon, winning their final game 2-1 (Alexandra Bradbury, Billie Philpott) against Dynamo. They did particularly well to be the only side not to lose to eventual winners Adur, with a 1-1 draw. Lydia Nelson was outstanding in goal-particularly against Eastbourne, where she made several saves to keep the score 0-0. The other outstanding player of the day was Charlotte Lewry, with a tigerish display, and non stop running, in midfield. Jess Scott and Caitlin Slater showed great progress over the day in their first appearance in Southdown colours, with Alicia Brown and Rose Jump both working hard in midfield and attack.
There is plenty to build on, but all in all a very enjoyable and satisfying day-well done.
Players of the day: Charlotte Lewry and Lydia Nelson
Season Update
U12s maintained their 100% record with fantastic and well fought 2-0 win away at Tonbridge-who look likely to be closest rivals this season. Becky and Ella kept things tight at the back, with goals from Lottie and Megan.
U11s are now in mid table, having beaten a good Broad Oak team 5-3 in their most recent match.
U 8-10 team played their first ever game today beating Burgess Hill Girls School 7-0. Everyone contributed with goals from Gabrielle (2 and an assist), Alexandra, Alicia, Charlotte, Billy and Emily (sorry if i missed any one). At the back Imogen and Andrea were particularly strong, whilst Katie, one of the youngest players on the pitch, pulled off some amazing saves at the end to keep a clean sheet. Lila and Anna both gave very encouraging performances as the other two U8 girls in the team

Southdown 4 Crowborough 2
A well deserved final win following an outstanding season (undefeated so far!!!). With goals from Lottie Arnold, Amy Simmonds (2), and Megan Rickards, backed up by a superb team performance and great defending from Ella Newnham and Ellie Pinnock, and important reflex saves from Hollie Kearvill, the result rarely looked in doubt. Good luck in the upcoming tournaments
